I listened to a book on tape, which I think should count as a book read...It was PLAY TO THE END by someone last named Goddard. I forget his first name. It was an okay book, although near the end, I wanted to kill the protagonist if he didn't get himself killed first. He just kept doing so many stupid things. I felt like one of those people who get too involved with a television show or a movie. You know the kind--the ones who say, "No! Don't go into that closet! That's where he's hiding!"
I have also read LEVIATHAN, by Scott Westerfield. I really enjoyed this book, although I was ticked off by the ending. I read this one on my Kindle, and so I pressed the "next page" button only to discover that I'd reached the end WITH SO MANY QUESTIONS STILL LEFT TO BE ANSWERED. Talk about an obvious, "There's going to be a Book 2." Really, I'd much prefer each series book to have a tidy ending, but this one sure didn't. And that means the next book is going to be started in medias res, which I'm also not that fond of. Oh well. It is still a good book.
I'm really getting into steam punk right now, in every way imaginable, but it's not the only thing I'm reading. I'm also reading GENERALLY SPEAKING, by Lieutenant General (retired) Claudia Kennedy. I'm reading it as preliminary research for a book I'm writing right now, with the working title INTERLOPER. My heart isn't really into the book, even though when I first came up with the idea, I was really psyched about it. I'm hoping my mind will turn around as I get more involved with it. I'm at 4,450 words right now, and it's my AugNoWriMo book this month. I've set a goal of 25,000 words, so I'm obviously a bit behind.
My comment button seems to have been overtaken by bots, so I apologize for the stupid comments on my blog. We'll see if I can clean those out. TTFN.
i love scott westerfeld's writing, but i've never heard of Leviathan. i'll check it out if its a new series, though i agree, it is kind of irritating when the book doesn't tie off neatly enough.
I know what you mean about feeling psyched for a story, and then feeling disinterested with it later. I have a notebook full of ideas like that to keep track of them so i can come back to them later. In the mean time, i have to keep myself motivated on current projects, haha...
